Board of Directors Election: Meet Candidate Jamie Tiampo
Today is the fifth in our series of blog posts introducing you to the six IACP Board of Directors candidates for the 2013-15 term.
A Message from Jamie Tiampo
I couldn’t have joined IACP’s Board of Directors at a more tumultuous time. Two years ago, The Great Recession was at its trough, the future of print publishing was in question, and digital technology was eroding the barriers to entry in the already competitive food media business. Revenues were crumbling, members were growing weary of IACP’s value, and there was little confidence in the outside management company’s ability to steer us out of our own fiscal cliff.
Since those dark days, the Board has made significant strides towards financial stability by carefully examining revenue and balancing expenditures on a line-by-line basis. We’ve refocused programs to offer more advanced professional curricula while still maintaining a ‘culinary umbrella’ approach to conferences. And most importantly, we’ve made the leap towards self-management, directly hiring one of the best Association management teams in the country.
I’m honoured to be considered once again for the Board of Directors. My goal on the board is to support a more industry and technology focused approach to how our members operate. We are no longer simply authors, editors, photographers, stylists or cooking instructors. We are Professionals; as such we must differentiate ourselves from amateurs by clearly communicating the value that we bring to the table. Key to the organization’s evolution is our collective embrace of digital media and a new spirit of entrepreneurialism.
I’m committed to helping our members navigate through the digital media landscape, and intend on further building IACP’s industry relevancy. But we need your help. Please vote, volunteer, and play an active role in our shared future. The ultimate success of IACP depends on our ability to engage people who not only understand food, but also the importance of distribution, technology, and personal brands.
Interpersonal connections matter, and IACP is the organization to deliver the people, places, and knowledge you need to succeed. I owe much of my career success to the relationships formed within IACP. Thank you for electing me to the Board the last two years; I’m proud of the strides that we have made, and I look forward to serving you again for the next term.
