Take a Tour of NW Italy in 2014!
We’re very excited to announce a culinary tour opportunity taking place October 2014! Take a tour of Piedmont, a northwestern region of Italy, and visit to the biyearly Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre convention. This tour is put together by the Turin Educational Consortium, which provides educational tourism opportunities for travelers to Turin.
The Salone del Gusto is an expansive organic food fair with tasting booths, cooking demos, food presentations and lectures. All 20 Italian regions and international Slow Food delegations will be represented. The Terra Madre (Mother Earth) convention is the scientific side of the event, with sessions and roundtables devoted to different topics including the politics of food production and the impact of agricultural methods on the environment.
This is also an amazing opportunity to visit Turin and the surrounding region of Piedmont . Piedmont is the largest Italian wine producer, as well as a white truffle hub, historical chocolate capital and famed rice grower. Turin has preserved the authenticity of its royal culinary traditions throughout the centuries, making it THE place to be for foodies and all culinary professionals.
To contextualize the Slow Food mission and its origin, an itinerary has been designed around Turin and the Piedmont wine country. IACP members can immerse themselves in medieval settings, attend the White Truffle Bacchanal in Alba, visit historical vineyards, and sample local traditional foods (like chocolate, risotto and braised meats) around the beautiful Langhe hills.
