Find out what a cookbook buyer looks for, from layout to cover art.
Join us for a Q&A with longtime cookbook buyer Tracey Trudeau. She will break down what a buyer’s job is, what she looks for in a book from layout to cover art, and what the cycle of sales looks like. We’ll also dive into what trends Tracey’s noticing in the cookbook sphere and the upcoming books she’s most excited about.
Tracey Trudeau is a decades-long New Book Buyer at the Portland, OR independent bookstore, Powell’s City of Books. She buys cookbooks for all the Powell’s locations. Some of her favorite recipes can be found in: Craig Claiborne and Virginia Lee’s "The Chinese Cookbook"; Vivian Howard’s "Deep Run Roots", and in the "Betty Crocker Cookbook" that she inherited from her Grandma. When not buying books, she can be found making a big mess of her kitchen or being very tidy while weaving at her floor loom. She has caught her kitchen on fire only twice.
